A section of the on going Lagos-Calabar highway construction
Special Assistant to Gov. Bassey Otu on Students Affairs, Kelvin Enyam, has urged youths and community leaders to protect infrastructure situated along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Enyam made the call on Monday in Nsit Atai, Akwa Ibom, when he led students leaders on a tour of the Akwa Ibom section of the coastal highway.
Enyam, also the Convener, Community of Comrades, South-South, said that the student leaders were satisfied with the quality of work on the highway.
He charged youths and other residents of communities affected by the highway to take ownership of the project, and protect its infrastructure from being vandalised.
The student leader further said that the coastal highway would be of great economic benefits to the communities and states affected by it.
“The highway will be of huge economic benefits to the nation at large, so it must be safeguarded,” he said.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for the huge investment in the construction of the coastal highway.
Enyam said that the students community in the South-South would support Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the tour, Mr Vincent Okoduwa, the Federal Controller of Works in Akwa Ibom, said that nine out of the 41 kilometres in the Akwa Ibom section of the highway had been completed.

“You can see that we have concrete poles that are about nine metres long. We also have solar lights with a-300 watt lighting system.
“The essence is to beautify and light up this place at night. This will also help vehicular movement,” he said.
