The Nigerian military has neutralised 16 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in coordinated air and artillery strikes on three suspected terrorist locations in the Lake Chad area.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, in a statement on Monday, said the strikes were conducted in the early hours of Monday.
Goni said the strikes targeted suspected terrorist enclaves in the Tunbunma area of southern Lake Chad, following intelligence on the presence of key terrorist leaders and fighters.
He said the battle damage assessment indicated that 16 fighters were neutralised across the three locations.
He added that those reportedly killed include Abu Zubiru, described as an Arab national, and two associates identified as Baana Nglewa and Jindullah Sadiq.
Goni also said that Abu Saleem, identified as the Wali of Tunbunma, sustained severe injuries alongside seven other persons.
