The Rivers State Interprofessional Anti-Quackery Committee has sealed six illegal health facilities across the state and arrested two suspects.

A statement signed by Dr Hope Ovundah for the committee said the operation was led by Doctor Vincent Wachukwu and Doctor. Diamond Tamunokuro.

The statement said one of the facilities, Bristol Clinic and Maternity at Rumuodomaya, was shut down after investigators discovered that the clinic, a three-bedroom apartment converted into a six-bed hospital.

The committee said Kingsley Ugwu was arrested for quackery and impersonation after he posed as a doctor and carried out maternity and surgical services though he was not qualified.

The statement noted that the team also closed Adoration Hospital and Maternity in Omagwa, a three-room shop converted into a hospital, staffed by a one-month post-internship doctor and ten auxiliary trainees.

Meanwhile, both the young doctor and the proprietor were summoned to the Ministry of Health and the NMA Disciplinary Panel.
