The Deputy Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Enejo Abdu on Tuesday in Jos, Plateau State asserted that the Medical Profession is the most vigorously moderated educational programme in the world.
Dr. Abdu stated this while administering the oath of the Physician’s pledge on 53 new Medical Doctors of the Bingham University Medical College into the Medical profession.
He explained that the vigorous training is not designed to punish the students but to establish a veritable standard regulation of the profession.
According to him, even in their post induction period, they have to be excellent in their practice or get sanctioned by MDCN.
Dr. Abdu disclosed exclusively to Patmos Media Line that five Medical Doctors were barred from practicing medicine in Nigeria for various offences but quickly added that the expulsion was not for punishment but to maintain discipline at all levels of the profession.
He told the audience that there was only one Medical Institution in the whole northern Nigeria until the Evangelica Church of West Africa (ECWA) blaized the trail to bring health care to the north.
26 year old Dr. Ikurhyel Nehemiah emerged the Best overall student of the graduating class and got an exclusive pose with Prof Emeritus Ayuba Ibrahim Zoakah who was either a former teacher or mentor to most eminent Medical personalities at the event.
Prof. Zoakah had over 10 postgraduate certificates in Epidemiology and Biostastics from various European and American Universities.
He has trained over 60 Medical Consultants and contributed many articles and books to the medical profession.
The esteemed Prof said health system is in bad shape as the country is ranked low in the profession urging the new Doctors to quickly specialise in their area of interest and come back to change the Medical status of the country.
The Plateau State Commissioner for Health. Dr Nicholas Baamlong disclosed that a plan by the State Government to float a Medical University to absorb the hundreds of Doctors who travel abroad is at an advanced stage on the drawing board.

He also said a 48 hours free Ambulance services for accident victims in the state has enhanced the Medical services of the state to humanity.
The Nigerian Medical Association of Nigeria (NMA) Plateau State Branch, in a goodwill message simply said “A healthy nation is a wealthy nation” urging governments at all levels to upgrade Medical facilities within their domains.
