NSF: Stephen wins Ondo’s first medal

Ogun State Governor,Dapo Abiodun lifting up the Unity Torch for the on going Sports Festival

Ondo State weightlifter, Sunday Stephen, on Monday won Team Ondo’s first medal at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Ogun.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 22nd edition of the NSF, tagged Gateway Games, is taking place from May 16 to 30.

Stephen secured a silver and a bronze medal in the men’s 61kg weightlifting category, marking the state’s first success at the competition.

Speaking to newsmen after the event, Stephen vowed to build on his performance and secure more medals for the state.

He said he had trained hard for the festival and credited his coaches for their guidance and support.

“My goal was to snatch gold for my state, but I thank God for these medals. I’ll train harder and aim higher next time,” he said.

The General Manager of the State Sports Council, Mr Sunday Fagite, praised Stephen for being the first medallist from Ondo State at the festival.

“Our athletes and their coaches are prepared to give their best throughout this year’s games,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
