By Tunde Abatan
Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Hakeem Jamiu, has described the impeached speaker of the house,Hon Olugboyega Aribisogan as a power monger whose inordinate ambition to be Speaker made him subvert normal process to install himself as the Speaker of the assembly.

Jamiu
In an exclusive interview with Newdawnngr.com,the first of such by any senior member of the sixth Ekiti Assembly, Honorable Jamiu said that it has always been Aribisogan’s ambition to become Speaker since the regime of former governor Fayose, which led to his suspension by the fithth assembly.
Jamiu said that while it is normal to have such ambition, it should be done in the proper way adding,” there is nothing bad in that but the way he went about it is ruthless and heartless.”
Speaking further, the deputy speaker said that Aribisogan as leader of government business recruited few honourable members to start planning the impeachment of the late Speaker ,Niyi Afuye and him, the deputy as far back as March this year.
Said he,”The reasons he gave was that it was the turn of Northern Senatorial district to produce the Speaker; late Afuye is from the southern senatorial district. So if Afuye had not died, Aribisogan would have attempted to impeach him and myself and change the entire leadership as later events turned out to be”.

The deputy speaker recalled that Aribisogan had earlier been suspended by the fith assembly during governor Fayose regime for the same allegation of trying to impeach the Speaker and the governor.
“He was suspended for about two years before he was rehabilitated by then governor Fayemi who admitted him from People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to All Prpgressives Peoples Congress, APC, gave him a return ticket and made him the leader of government business”.
Still on the impropriety of Aribisogan, he said that the tenure of present assembly inaugurated by Fayemi on June 6, 2019,expires on June 5,2023, adding that it is the turn of the South that was truncated by the death of late Speaker Afuye who died on October 19,2022.
Jamiu said that the zoning arrangement is very sacrosanct in Ekiti adding that the three principal positions of governor, deputy and speaker are zoned into the three senatorial districts.
Asked whether it was right to have removed Aribisogan, he replied in the affirmative saying that his emergence was done through a “heavily compromised process”.
He said on investigation it was discovered through an ad hoc committee set up by the house to investigate events leading to the rancour after his “purported victory”that Aribisogan and others that elected him compromised that election”.
In answer to a question, he said that one of the major achievements of the sixth assembly is the passage of the Bill christened, “Transition Law 2019” among 90 others which forbids any new governor from abandoning projects of his predecessor adding that this has drastically reduced abandoned projects in the state.
Jamiu said the sixth assembly made history in the state by passing the highest number of laws since it’s creation.
He disclosed that the passage of the “Gender Based violence (prohibition law 2011,2019,Ekiti state sexual violence against children(compulsory treatment and care)Law 2020 adding that each member of the assembly has implemented projects that has positively affected their community.
On his own he ,he cited the reconstruction of Ilupeju-Ire-Igbemo-Iju road and the restoration of light to six communities which had been without light for nine months, by the EBDC as one of the many projects he had executed as dividends of democracy.
