Adonte Mixed Secondary, photos of which you see above, was founded in 1980 during the reign of Obi Nwalikor of blessed memory through communal effort in 1980. It became the first secondary school in the town and saved the indigenes of the community from trekking to or relocating to neighbouring villages and towns like Nsukwa, Ogwashi -Uku, Ubulu-Uku, Isele-Uku, Asaba, Onitsha Ugbo et al, in search of western education. Forty two years down the road, the school is run down; it is dilapidated. It is a shadow of itself with the fence, building and roofs falling apart and the centre can no longer hold.

Okowa/Chikezie, this is Adonte/Abbah- Unor road as at last month

Teachers and students have deserted it; NYSC members who are supposed to be on compulsory national assignment shun the school like a plaque and those that manage to stay are taken care of by the community.

The story of the school is a tale of woes. The entire community now depend on educational facility provided by private individuals at a great cost.

Same for the only governmemt owned primary health centre, maternity, in the town, which boasts of one nursing sister. The maternity was built in the days of western region when the town was in western region before midwest, Bendel and now, Delta.

It was last renovated in the time of Honourable Pascal Adigwe as Aniocha South representative at the house of representatives.

Both the school and the health centre are at best the only government presence in the town.

Adonte, a food basket for the state, has no road, no health facility, no school, no electricity; in fact nothing!  It has been neglected by the past and present regime(s) in the state not minding the fact that the state government is one of the nine oil producing states that recently got N110m 13 percent deviation arrears payment.
