Six months after the death of a prominent Niger Delta activist, Mr Tony Uranta, the family has finally fixed May 27 for his burial in Opobo Kingdom, Rivers.

It will be recalled that the activist died on Nov. 24 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital at the age of 67.

It was reported that burial arrangements for the Niger Delta Chieftain was released on Wednesday in Lagos.

Mr Michael Uranta, immediate younger brother to the late Tony, who signed the release on behalf of the family, said the burial would begin with a solidarity -walk/civil society rally on May 21 at 9:00 a.m. at Omole Phase 1, Lagos.

Michael said that May 22 had been fixed for a Candlelight Procession at 6:00 p.m. at Omole, Phase I in Lagos.

He said the Service Of Songs would hold on May 24 at House on the Rock Cathedral Headquarters, Lagos State at 5:00p.m.

According to him, another Service of Songs will hold at the House on the Rock Church, Abacha Road, in Port Harcourt, the home state of the deceased on May 26 at 5.00 p.m.

Michael said the remains of late Uranta would leave Port Harcourt at 7:00am on May 27, to the deceased Compound in Queenstown, Opobo Kingdom for a Lie-In-State, Funeral Service and interment.

He said that May 29 had been scheduled for the Thanksgiving Service at St. John’s Anglican Church, Queenstown Parish at 10:00a.m.

In a telephone interview with NAN, Michael said: “The only good you do for a dead person is to bury the person.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank his friends, colleagues and family members for their understanding all these while,” he said.

Recalls that Uranta was a member of the Presidential Committee on National Dialogue and member, Federal Government’s Technical Committee on Niger Delta.

He was also the Executive Secretary, Pan-Niger Delta Forum, Executive Secretary, United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy and Executive Secretary, Nigeria National Summit Group, among others.
