The pioneer Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, The Rt Revd Dr. Peter Awelewa Adebiyi is dead.

Bishop Adebiyi passed on quietly on his sickbed around 10 pm on Friday, February 9
His former spokesman, Mr. Tunji Oguntuase confirmed his passage. He said the family would issue a press statement in that regard.
Adebiyi retired from the diocese in 2013 at the age of 70.
Born on April 27, 1943, at Osi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Adebiyi was ordained a deacon in1970 and then a priest in 1971. He first served as a priest at the Holy Trinity Church of the Anglican Communion, Ilawe Ekiti.
He was preferred a canon in 1983 and was the vicar of Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, Ikeja between 1987 and May 1993. He was collated an archdeacon in 1990 and consecrated Bishop of Owo Diocese on May 26, 1993.
In 1999, Bishop Peter Awelewa Adebiyi was translated to the See of the Diocese of Lagos West.
Bishop Adebiyi worked tirelessly building the diocese. He introduced many programmes and activities that made the diocese unique. During his tenure, the diocese alongside the Diocese of Lagos played host to all bishops in Africa at an event known as African Anglican Bishops Conference in November 2004.
He was greatly concerned about bad governance. He joined the league of those who battled the military in the post-June 12 annulment years. This earned him the tag, “Nadeco Bishop”
Adebiyi was always in the news calling the government to order and giving suggestions on how to move the nation forward. He believed so much that without a restructured Nigeria, the country would not make progress. His wife Caroline Adebiyi died a few years ago.
