…Claim to be hunters

Barely 24 hours after the delegation sent to Ibarapa to douse tension over alleged activities of herdsmen in the area, there was confusion in Eruwa on Monday after some Fulani men were intercepted at Ido area along the Ibadan -Eruwa town.

A source told the NPO Reports that at about 4pm, some mini-trucks ferrying men, grains and some arms were first intercepted along Eruwa road and they claimed to be on their way to Eruwa.

When confronted, NPO Reports source said the men claimed that they were on a hunting expedition.

Also said to be part of their luggage were some dogs.

While two of the trucks were said to have been released at Ido, they were all intercepted again at the entry point into Eruwa where angry youths insisted their mission must be declared before they would be allowed to go.

The men were said to have been forced to proceed to the Area Command of the police in Eruwa where the mini trucks were parked and the men were asked to come down.

At the area command of the police, irate youths were said to have insisted they would not allow the men proceed on their journey because they failed to give satisfactory answers on their mission to the area.

NPO Reports gathered that the Area Commander had informed the police command in Ibadan.

According to the source, the Commissioner of Police Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko was said to have ordered the trucks to be led back to Ibadan.

As at the time of filing this report, the trucks and their occupants were said to have arrived at the Criminals Investigations Department of the police in Ibadan.

Attempt to ask the police it’s findings about the men proved abortive as the command PPRO Gbenga Fadeyi did not pick his call when our correspondent called him for clarification.
In another development some hordes of Fulani herdsmen were also intercepted at Akinale village a suburb of Abeokuta scores of some Fulani men were intercepted as they tried to encamp near the village with their dogs numbering over 50 in number.
Kabiyesi Olufemi Ogunleye,Towulade of Akinale, veteran journalist and the traditional ruler of the town accosted the men and after speaking to them in Fulfude language, they told him they were on hunting expedition.
Kabiyesi Ogunleye who later sent a petition to the state police command with copies to former President Obasanjo queried the men…. who by their looks claim to have come from Kano why they trespassed into other peoples land.
Said he,”When I told them would they have allowed such in Kano by any stranger they showed remorse and I asked them to leave the area”.
Till now the state police command is yet to react to the development.
It will be recalled that after the dislodgement of the Fulani settlement in Igangan last week, scores of them have moved into neighbouring Ogun state while soldiers were seen guiding them to graze their cattle in farmlands owned by farmers across the state.
