Corpses coming into Ekiti would be well screened – Commissioner

…Warns on need to observe social distancing to stop spread

Ekiti State Government said on Friday that corpses could now be brought into the state for burial but would be thoroughly screened for medical history and what caused death of the deceased at it borders before entry .
Ekiti state health and humanitarian services commissioner, Dr Mojisola Yayah Kolade, who brought the cheering news to those interested in bring in their relatives corpses home for burial appealed to the residents of the state to continue to observe Social Distancing to stop community spread of Covid 19.

The Commissioner made the appeal at the Press briefing by the Members of Ekiti Covid 19 Task Force at the Conference Hall, Governor’s office Ado -Ekiti.

According to Abiodun Olofe,the ministry information officer,the commissioner said,”We are concerned with the risk of community spread, we are firm on social distancing and wearing of mask. We are responsible for protecting the lives of our people .” He noted.

“However, we won’t allow convoy while bringing in deceased from another state, social distancing rules would be observed at all points”. she said.

On security, the Chairman of the Ekiti Covid 19 Task force and Director General of the Office of Transformation and Strategy Prof. Bolaji Aluko noted that the state has continued to have cases of travelers trying to force themselves into the state at our border towns.

“We are currently working with the traditional rulers especially those at the border towns to ensure that they adequately man entries into their various towns and villages”. He said.

Prof.Aluko disclosed that market issue was the greatest challenge that the state has on social distancing noting that any market in the state that fail to observe it and the use of facemask would be shutdown immediately noting that the state has distributed over two thousand face masks to the market women.

The Director General also said that the state has given out over 50 thousand packs of palliative to the residents of the state assuring that over 2 thousand packs are ready for distribution as at the time we are filing this story .

On Violation of Fundamental Human rights of the citizens by the security agents , Prof. Aluko assured that the Task force team would investigate on the matter and would also do the needful .

“We are against all forms of violation. People who are going about their normal business in a curfew free hours should not be molested by any security operative”. He said.

In his contribution, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon.Gbenga Agbeyo reported that His Imperial Majesty Ooni of Oba Babatunde Ogunwusi Ojaja ll has donated four motorized Fumigators to the state government to fight Covid 19 pandemic.

Hon. Agbeyo appreciated the Royalty from the cradle of Yoruba land for his show of love for Ekiti state and Nigeria at large.

While contributing, the newly appointed Ambassador of Covid 19 in the state , commandant Femi Adeoye (rtd) noted that before he was recognised by the state for his patriotic attitude of surrendering his son who sneaked into the state from a high risk state of Covid 19, said that he has been enlightening the general public on how to curb novel pandemic.

Adeoye noted that the fight to end Corona virus scourge is a collective responsibility and urged Ekiti residents to corporate with the government to battle the pandemic .
