Senate on Wednesday confirmed Olanipekun Olukoyede’s appointment as the Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) despite protests by members of the Committee on Anti- corruption.

Senate had stepped down the confirmation of Olukoyede on Tuesday following the objection by the Senator Isa Misau led committee who alleged that the Committee chairman failed to carry them along.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki had however asked the Committee to meet on the matter and resolve the issue.

But, when the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Chukwuka Utazi was about to present the report for consideration, Senator Misau kicked against the presentation saying that there are a lot of petitions against the nominee which the committee did not consider.

Countering Misau, Utazi insisted that he informed members of the Committee about the report adding that Senator Misau was never present at the Committee meeting where Olukoyede was screened.

Senator Dino Melaye also kicked against the confirmation, but the Senate President, Bukola Saraki overruled the two lawmakers and confirmed Olukoyede as EFCC scribe.
