Africa Failed to Stand Among The Last Four Countries at the 12th world U20 Women’s Football tournament in Poland.
…Defending Champions, North Korea Still in Contention for Fourth Title.
Four teams are still standing after 48 matches played at the 12th world U20 Women’s Football tournament in Poland as at 20th September 2026 namely defending champions North Korea, Spain, Columbia and Italy.
None of the four African representatives passed the examination to play the semifinal match only Nigeria qualified for the Quarterfinals. Ghana, Tanzania and Benin Republic had fallen at the earlier stages.
A total 34,480 fans (an average of 718 per game) watched 174 goals scored with Spain having highest team score of 19 goals; Nigeria, North Korea and USA scored 13 goals each, Argentina supplied 11 goals while Brazil, Italy and Canada scored 10 goals each.

New Caledonia led teams that conceded the highest goals with 26, Tanzania -15, Benin Republic and New Zealand conceded 14 goals each while Costa Rica conceded 10.
Three players are on line for the highest individual scorer award namely Annika Paz of Argentina, Choe Yon A of South Korea and Pau Comendador of Spain each scoring 5 goals followed by six players who scored 4 goals each namely Kaylee Hunter of Canada, Huang Jiaxin of China, Rachael Maltby of England, Karen Appiah of Italy as well as Marisa Garcia and Celia Segura both from Spain.
Only six “Bad Girls” were declared to have bagged red cards from Costa Rica, Portugal, Columbia, Ecuador, Canada and Nigeria. There were a total 80 yellow cards flashed with 7 that went to Costa Rica, 6 to Spain, 5 each to North Korea, Tanzania, New Zealand and Nigera.
And now, Defending Champions, North Korea will try to overcome Columbia on Wednesday at 2pm to proceed to her 5th final in 8th appearances while high scoring Spain will need to upgrade to overcome challenger, Italy to obtain victory in the 2nd semifinal at 5pm same Wednesday. The losers or third place match is on Saturday while the grand finale is on Sunday.
