Academic Staff Union At NSUK Suspends Strike.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) chapter, has suspended its strike action and directed lecturers to resume academic activities, citing commitments made by the Nasarawa State Government and the university’s Governing Council Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
The decision was announced following what the union described as commitments and interventions by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule and Prof. Jega toward addressing issues affecting academic staff and the university community.
Speaking on the decision, an ASUU representative said the union’s Congress considered it necessary to suspend the industrial action in recognition of the commitments made by the government and the Governing Council.
According to him, the decision was also taken in the interest of students, who are expected to return to classes and continue their academic activities while the union pursues outstanding matters with the relevant authorities.
“It was a commitment from government, as well as the commitment of the council chairman,” he said.
He explained that the Congress resolved to resume academic activities in honour of the Governor and the Governing Council Chairman, while continuing discussions on other unresolved demands.
“It is in honour of them that the Congress felt it is necessary to honour them and also resume back while our students come back to continue their academic activities, while we continue to pursue other issues,” he said.

The ASUU representative, however, stressed that some outstanding issues remain unresolved, noting that the union would continue to engage the government and university authorities on the matters.
He appealed to Governor Sule to give urgent attention to the remaining demands, particularly those relating to outstanding entitlements due to academic staff.
“I want to believe that His Excellency, having heard of this, will give it an ultimate and urgent attention so that we can pay other necessary things that is due for academic staff,” he added.
Students of the Institution Wednesday trooped back to their Keffi campus ready for commencement of classes tomorrow Thursday. The Students were seen jisting around their departmental offices waiting for instructions and at eatery spots.
