…Maddie Dimaria is the Greatest Goal Merchant with 12 Goals.

Two African countries, Nigeria and Ghana are the only teams still standing out of the five that represented Confederation of African Football CAF at the world U17 women’s football tournament in Morocco.

Hosts Morocco, Kenya and Zambia are out and Nigeria with Ghana are listed for the quarterfinal games on Sunday. Nigerian players, officials and fans were at a special corner to give African support to Ghana when Ghana beat Argentina at 4pm last Wednesday and Ghana reciprocated with high decibels at 4pm on Thursday when Mexican waves were stopped.

So far 44 matches have been played with 182 goals scored and a paltry 12,341 fans at the stands which is an average of 280 fans per match and it is on record that the largest attendance was 682 fans that watched USA hammer Samora 17-0. It is expected that attendances will be worst now that hosts Morocco has been sent to the stands.

Maddie Dimaria of USA is still the highest individual scorer with 12 goals; Diz Mercedes of Argentina and Yu Jong-Hyang of North Korea follows with 7 goals each; Kim Won-Sim scored 6 goals; Mei Hanashiro of Japan and Zofia Burzan of Poland scored 4 goals each.

While North Korea scored six goals against each of the four teams they have met so far, countries that boast of more than one clean slate that is not conceding any goal in more that one match are Japan with 3 clean slates, North Korea and ousted France with 2 clean slates each.
