FUTO undergraduate dies after dispute over N13,000

A 100-level Cybersecurity student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has reportedly died following an alleged assault by cadets of the Man O’ War group over claims of theft involving ₦13,000.

 

 

 

According to reports, the incident occurred after the student was accused of stealing the said amount, leading to his arrest by the cadets. He was allegedly held and subjected to hours of punishment during the incident.

Sources say the student later became unresponsive and was confirmed dead, sparking outrage among students and renewed concerns over the conduct of security or disciplinary groups operating within the campus environment.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have triggered calls for a full investigation, with many demanding accountability and a review of the activities of such groups in tertiary institutions.
