A CELEBRATION OF PATRIOTSIM

Chief Bisi Akande’s Speech Extolling the Philanthropy of Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, CFR at Ikere Ekiti on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Protocols.

We are gathered here today to celebrate more than the unveiling of a maternity complex at the Ikere State Specialist Hospital. We are gathered to celebrate patriotism in its truest and most meaningful form.

There are men whose greatness is measured by titles, wealth, and accomplishments. There are others whose greatness is measured by the lives they touch and the communities they uplift.

Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, CFR belongs firmly to both categories.

Nigeria knows him as one of the finest legal minds of his generation — an accomplished Barrister, a respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria, a former Chairman of the Body of Benchers, and a towering figure within the nation’s legal profession. But beyond the courtroom, beyond the legal citations, beyond the professional honours stands a man deeply committed to the welfare of his people and his community.

That, to me, is the highest expression of patriotism.

I have known Wole Olanipekun for many years. Over time, I have come to appreciate not only his brilliance as a lawyer, but also the depth of his convictions about service for Nigerian progress, about community development, and about human responsibility.

He belongs to a generation that believes success must carry moral purpose.

He believes that education matters. He believes that integrity still matters. He believes that values also matter. And he believes strongly that those whom God has blessed must never disconnect themselves from the ordinary people.

Those convictions are reflected in the way he lives, the way he relates with people, and the way he continues to invest in humanity.

Personally, I have drawn inspiration from his consistency, humility, discipline, and unwavering attachment to his roots. In a society increasingly driven by material display and personal ambition, he has remained grounded in service and responsibility.

That is why today’s event is important.

Patriotism is not merely about political positions or public acclaim. It is about responsibility to humanity. It is about remembering where one comes from. It is about understanding that success becomes meaningful only when it improves the lives of others.

Chief Olanipekun has demonstrated this repeatedly. He built a church for his community because he believes in God. And so demonstrated an investment in spiritual evangelism. He invested in a library and educational facilities for the younger generation. And now, he is donating a state-of-the-art clinic and healthcare delivery facility that will serve ordinary men, women, children, and families who may otherwise struggle to access quality healthcare.

These are not symbolic gestures. These are enduring investments in humanity.

This clinic is not merely a building. It is the hope for the sick. It is the dignity for the vulnerable. It is the reassurance for the families. It is the proof that nation-building can begin from one institution, one community, and from one patriotic citizen at a time.

At a period when society often celebrates wealth without emphasizing responsibility, it is important that we deliberately honour examples such as this. Our young people particularly must understand that the true measure of success is not what one accumulates, but what one contributes. Nigeria needs more citizens who will give back to society; more citizens who will build institutions instead of monuments for themselves; more citizens who understand that community development is not the duty of government alone.

Chief Wole Olanipekun has shown that private success and public responsibility can coexist. He has also demonstrated that patriotism can be quiet, practical, and transformational.

Today, we celebrate not only a legal icon, but a man of conscience, of compassion, and of uncommon commitment to humanity. I congratulate him for this noble contribution to Ikere-Ekiti, to Ekiti State, and indeed to Nigeria.

May his example inspire others blessed with influence and success to invest in people, in communities, and in the future generations.

Thank you, Wole, for teaching patriotism through philanthropism.
