Ibadan elders intervene in rift between Makinde, Olubadan

Like a Yoruba saying,Agba ki wa loja,ki ori omo titun wo, Ibadan elders have intervened in the rumoured rift between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

The Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, made the disclosure on Friday while addressing journalists at his private residence, Aladewura House, Sanyo, in Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of the state.

Ajibola said the intervention was aimed at calming tensions and preventing further escalation of the matter.

“I want to allay the fears of our people in Ibadanland that there is no problem between Governor Seyi Makinde and His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

“Our elders in Ibadan have waded into the matter.

“You must have been hearing a lot on social media. We don’t want problems in Ibadan anymore.

“You remember the era of Operation Wetie. Ibadan is ready to settle the problem. Our elders are up to the task,” he said.

Earlier reports had indicated that Governor Makinde, and the Olubadan have responded to the claim by a former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, that there is a plot to dethrone the monarch.

Fayose, as earlier reported by The Eagle Online, said Makinde was plotting to remove Ladoja as the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In his reaction, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the government had never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

Oyelade said: “By now, Nigerians know who and what to believe, especially when the information comes from a particular quarter.

“Oyo State Government has never contemplated, discussed, or planned such an action.

“There has to be a credible motive for every government action, and this, coming from the unofficial spokesman of our opponents, is better put in the refuse dump where it belongs.

In the same vein, the media aide to Oba Ladoja, Adeola Oloko, posited that the statement credited to Fayose was an unfounded and baseless rumour.

Oloko said there is no rift between Makinde and the monarch to warrant such claims.

He said: “It will be most unfortunate if it is not a rumour.

“I don’t see any cause for friction between Governor Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland.”
