Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practises Commission,ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu has revealed that African countries loses an average of $60billion dollars annually through illicit financial flows like stealing of money,artifacts and others to other foreign countries.
This atrocities he said are committed through the help of banks in the country.
Speaking Wednesday at the 13th Anniversary of Realnews on the Theme: “Cybersecurity,illicit Financial Flows and Achieving Agenda 2063 in Africa ” he accused some banks of aiding such evil deals.

He disclosed that some Nigerian banks are being investigated for blocking the resources the country needs by compromising the system .
Though he failed to name the banks,he said they are being investigated.
He also identified stealing of most African assets through corrupt public officers and repatriate such resources to foreign countries adding that funds stolen and stashed abroad are difficult to repatriate back to the country.
Said he,”our banks are not patriotic as they collude with public officials to compromise the system.
Dr Aliyu cited the unnamed case of a public official who used the IPPIS to open bank account for his family, relatives and drawing monthly income through the fake workers.
He said that African countries are rich but without having access to this stolen resources they cannot develop.

He called on the National Assembly to pass the Whistle-blower protection law adding that without such laws people will not come out to volunteer information.
He praise the media for providing lead to some of its cases through the information given.
Dr Aliyu,SAN also spoke of the need to provide the needed capacity support for investigative journalists as some of “our investigations are based on media exposures.
