The Proprietor of Young Heroes Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, Mr Tope Owolabi, has urged parents to discourage examination malpractice.
Owolabi gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Ilorin.
He said some parents supported examination malpractice because they viewed it as a shortcut to academic success.
“Some parents go to great lengths to secure so-called miracle centres for their children during external examinations.
“Many parents encourage malpractice because they see it as the only route to academic success.
“They search for miracle centres and pay double examination fees, including charges for malpractice.
“Some students no longer study seriously because they have parental backing to engage in malpractice,” he said.
Owolabi warned that parents should completely condemn examination malpractice and promote honesty and diligence.
He said malpractice could make children see cheating as a way of life and encourage laziness.
According to him, malpractice could also undermine confidence and leave students unable to defend their certificates.

Owolabi called on education stakeholders and school proprietors to intensify efforts to curb examination malpractice in schools.
He said continued reliance on malpractice could have negative consequences for the country’s future.
“Parents must frown at malpractice and encourage their wards to be disciplined and embrace hard work,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
