…..asks citizens to awaken their leadership traits

Senator Ibikunle Amosun
A former Governor of Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun, has challenged Nigerians to awaken the leadership traits in them and stop looking up to political office holders for everything.
Amosun gave the challenge while delivering a lecture at the second edition of the Lam Adesina Annual Lecture Series (LAALS) in Ibadan on Tuesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the lecture, in honour of late Lam Adesina, a former Oyo State Governor, is entitled “Sustaining a Legacy of Effective Leadership in Nigeria”.
Amosun said that every Nigerian citizen has a role to play in the development of the country.
According to him, the culture of waiting for the government or blaming others must give way to personal responsibility and collective action.
He says while the journey to effective leadership may be long, it begins with a step and a decision to do the right thing.
The former Ogun governor advised Nigerians to act with integrity in any opportunity they find themselves to strengthen Nigeria’s foundation of good governance.
“Alhaji Lam Adesina’s life teaches us that leadership is service; he lived simply, spoke the truth, and valued education as the path to freedom.
“To sustain his legacy, we must see leadership as an act of sacrifice and not a means of privilege.
“Let us, therefore, leave this hall with renewed purpose; let us sustain the legacy of Alhaji Lam Adesina, not only by remembering his name, but by continuing his work of building an educated and responsible society,” he said.
Mr Ajibola Bashir, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said leadership and education must always be at the forefront in Nigeria to sustain Adesina’s legacy.
Bashiru said APC must continue to provide the dividends of democracy to the citizens to remain the party of choice and be able to sustain Adesina’s legacy as a progressive leader.
On behalf of the family, one of Adesina’s children, Dapo Adesina, described his father as a man full of wisdom and impact.
According to him, the vacuum left behind by his father will be difficult to fill.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was attended by politicians, Adesina’s loyalists, and family members, among others. (NAN)
