How Touts chased family of three to death in Abuja

In a tragic incident that occurred on Wednesday, a family of three died in a car crash along the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja, after the driver had an altercation with some touts popularly known as Agbero.
According to available information, the touts had stopped the private vehicle for flouting their rules by reportedly stopping to pick up a passenger who was a relative .
The refusal of the driver to pay the “fine” angered the touts, who reportedly forced their way into the vehicle, dragging the steering wheel and eventually causing the accident.

The impact killed all three occupants of the vehicle instantly – a man, his wife and their son.A green-colour Abuja taxi parked nearby was also hit and severely damaged.

Subsequently, angered passersby who witnessed the scene chased down the touts, eventually setting one of them on fire, and severely injuring the other two, who were rescued and rushed to the hospital by the police.

According to eyewitness accounts, the family was driving in a Toyota Highlander after purchasing a brand new refrigerator when they were chased from the Berger axis by three touts.The touts reportedly hopped into the vehicle and began dragging the steering wheel with the driver.

 

“In the process of struggling for control, the car rammed into the pillar under the bridge before plunging into the drainage,” one eyewitness said.
The eyewitness said the vehicle then collided with a painted taxi, near the Mabushi bridge, before veering off the road into a ditch.The wreckage was consequently cleared by officers of the Mabushi Police Division.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Police regarding the incident.
