…threatens legal action
Just as officials of Ogun state planning authorities on Monday asked Senator Gbenga Daniel to come forth with his approval papers, the senator has accused the state Governor of equally guilty of highway set back regulations and should be the first to be served notice.
As a result, the media aide to former Ogun State Governor and current Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Steve Oliyide, has warned that legal action may be taken against the state government over its plan to demolish several of Daniel’s properties.
The targeted properties reportedly include Daniel’s private residence, Asoludero Court, in Sagamu GRA, as well as Conference Hotels and its annex.
In a statement on Monday, Oliyide accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of acting out of political vendetta and questioned his moral authority to issue violation notices.
He alleged that the governor’s private residence on the Iperu–Ode Road also breaches highway setback regulations, claiming it should be the first to be removed if such violations were being addressed.
“The whole action is even against the 2022 Urban and Regional Law of the state which they are quoting to back their dirty and sordid job,” Oliyide said. “Which part of this law says that it is the same day you serve the contravention notice that you must also serve the quit notice, stating that the properties would be demolished after three days?”

He insisted there were no genuine contraventions, describing the government’s claims as baseless and rooted in suspicion. Oliyide stressed that even if there were concerns, the proper procedure would have been to issue a demand notice requesting relevant documentation within a stipulated period.
He further noted that all necessary building approvals for the properties had been duly obtained, with copies submitted to the government’s town planning authorities. “It is dereliction of duty and sheer irresponsibility if the government now claims it does not have the records,” he stated, adding that their lawyers would handle the matter going forward.
