Tensions erupted at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees meeting in Abuja on Wednesday as former Youth Leader, Sunday Ude-Okoye, was attacked and forced out allegedly by supporters of the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

The meeting is being held at the party’s National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza.

Ude-Okoye, who has been presenting himself as the party’s National Secretary, was seen shouting and instructing some men dressed in black to enter the meeting.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and others have since intervened to restore calm.

Ude-Okoye and Anyanwu are both laying claims to the position of National Secretary.

In 2023, the PDP’s South East zone nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu as National Secretary after the latter emerged as the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election.

On December 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal in Enugu upheld Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary.

However, last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order, directing Anyanwu to remain National Secretary until the Supreme Court resolves the appeal.
