Former Secretary Of Transparent International ,TI,has restated the need for resource control by states if the country must develop.
He told Newdawnngr.com in an interview that the recent debate over Tax Reform Bills by the National Assembly is just one of the measures that should be adopted for even development of the states.
According to him,those against the new derivation- based Value Added Tax are unaware of the resource base of the states which should be a source of revenue.
Speaking further the said rather than canvassing against the Tax reform,the states should canvass for resource control while the public consultation such that they could have more resources for development.
He however said that if resource control is granted,the federal government should hand over more responsibilities to states and local governments in the country to relief it of the burden.
Williams said that federal government should let go it’s control of state resources and focus more on its Offshore resources which are exclusively for the federal government.
Said he,”I believe the federal government should generate its own revenues for Defence,Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy .

This he said should include it’s exclusive control of nations monetary affairs which include Central Bank ,National research institutes and other federal agencies.
To achieve this,he called for creation of a Federal Support Fund with constitutional contributions for building and Infrastructures and Emergencies.
He advised the Northern region which has objected to the new Tax reform Bills to focus on it’s rich solid minerals resources and abundant Livestock to develop the region.
