The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has thrown its weight behind the proposed tax reform bills, citing their potential to stimulate economic growth and benefit all regions of Nigeria, including the North.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Afenifere’s Organising Secretary, Abagun Omololu, emphasized the critical role the reforms could play in revitalizing the economy.

“Afenifere is in support of the tax reform for its promise of economic revival. We have noted that the bills are a crucial step towards stimulating the Nigerian economy,” Omololu stated. “With the tax system reform, we hope for improvement of revenue generation at both federal and state levels. This is essential for funding critical infrastructure and social services that will benefit all Nigerians, including those in the North.”
He further explained that the changes to Value Added Tax (VAT) administration proposed in the bills would align revenue sharing with actual consumption patterns, ensuring states are funded based on economic activity rather than historical allocations.
The endorsement by Afenifere underscores the significance of the tax reform bills, which aim to create a more equitable and efficient tax system to support national development.
