A non-governmental organisation,Women Law and Development Initiative (WOLDI Africa) recently concluded a six weeks mentorship Training with selected secondary schools towards building the capacity of teenage School girls to be Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) actors and Empowering the girls for leadership project in Abuja.

The six weeks intensive session which had in attendance experts on SGBV and teachers of the represented schools also equipped participants on female empowerment and leadership of the girl child. The training which had in attendance Government Girl’s Science Secondary School Kuje and Kabusa, also charged participants to build synergy between the young girls and leaders in all spheres of life.

With support from American Association of University Women, WOLDI Africa implemented the project “Building the Capacity of Teenage School Girls to be SGBV actors and empowering the girls for Leadership”. The project went on with a 6 weeks intense mentorship training at Government Girls Science Secondary School Kuje and Kabusa Community School, Kabusa Community Abuja respectively.

The 6 weeks intensive training was coordinated by the mentors and facilitators within the school premises.

The mentees were engaged in intensive brainstorming sessions on; understanding sex, gender and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), SGBV case management and counselling, victims and perpetrators of child sexual abuse and grooming process, understanding leadership, communication skills and teamwork.
The training seeks to equip the mentees with exposure, skills and knowledge they need to help them in making informed decisions and inspire them to aspire for leadership/entrepreneur roles. The impact, lessons and experiences will prepare them to know how to counter marginalization, stereotypes and obstacles that women face in leadership/entrepreneur and the public space.
The mentorship program ended with a closeup meeting, WOLDI Africa also donated 10 copies of the manual to each school.

Shekarau in 2019 to provide voice to the voiceless, access to justice for women and children and to promote elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls, while ensuring sustainable development and gender equality across Africa.
