In attendance at the training were teachers and management staff of Government Girl’s Science Secondary School Kuje and Kabusa both in Abuja.

One of the facilitators,Ms. Paulett Ogeah while speaking on the essence of the training explained it is to “equip staff with knowledge on female empowerment and leadership, to acquire more knowledge on how to build the morale of teenage girls to be great leaders in the nearest future, to have more understanding knowledge on the importance of speaking up and coming together to have their voices heard and build synergy between the young girls and current leaders and future leaders.”

With support from America Association of Universities Women (AAUW), WOLDI Africa implemented a mentorship program for 10 staffs from 2 Government Girl’s Science Secondary Schools in Kuje and Kabusa Community respectively in Abuja as with the project objective of building future leaders and contribution to ending Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) in Nigeria as record shows that SGBV puts women and girls in a vulnerable position and reducing the impact they could have in the society.

“This intitative is aimed at mentoring and building capacity of teenage girls on the prevalence, prevention, impact, and how to address cases of SGBV, and also promote a culture of respect, equality, and safety within and outside the school environment and further more build morals and skills for leadership and also strengthen SGBV clubs within the two schools,” Elizabeth Okhanigbe one of the facilitators at the training opined.

The mentorship training was aimed at building the capacity of staff as mentors so they can also be mentors to the school students, that way it is embodied in the school even after the project is over the teachers as the first responders are able to mentor the students in the right way to be great future leaders and mentors.

WOLDI Africa an initiative of the late Dr. Hauwa Shekarau established in 2019 to provide voice to the voiceless, access to justice for women and children and to promote elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls, while ensuring sustainable development and gender equality across Africa.
