Gov. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has expressed his condolences on the sudden death of music legend, Ms Onyeka Onwenu, describing her as an unforgettable, beautiful beacon of joy and inspiration.
Soludo, in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Christian Aburime, also described her as a beloved Nigerian music icon and distinguished daughter of Ndigbo.
Onwenu died on Tuesday at the age of 72, at a hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos.
“Ms. Onwenu can be described as an unforgettable, beautiful beacon of joy and inspiration, widely recognised for her remarkable contributions to music and film.
“She was affectionately known as the ‘Elegant Stallion,’ who began her illustrious music career in the 1980s.
“Her debut album, “For the Love of You,” released in 1981, marked the beginning of a career that would see her produce numerous albums and timeless hits, including the iconic ‘One Love’.
“Beyond her musical achievements, she also made significant strides in Nollywood, earning accolades for her performances and her commitment to the arts,” he said.
Soludo said Onwenu was a dedicated social activist and politician, who used her platform to advocate for positive change and uplift her community.
According to him, Onwenu’s legacy is one of resilience, creativity, and steadfast commitment to the betterment of society, making her an irreplaceable figure in the hearts of many.
The Governor extended his condolences to the Onwenu family and those who were touched by her artistry and spirit.
He prayed that her soul rest in peace and that her contributions to music and society continue to inspire future generations.(NAN)
