Amidst nationwide protest,Oshodi, Mushin remain Calm

Residents of Oshodi, Mushin and other areas in Lagos metropolis remain calm amidst nationwide protest.

They seem not interested in joining the protest as life remain calm contrary to expectations from such areas at times like this.

Major commercial hubs in Lagos State remained relatively calm on Thursday in spite of the nationwide protests, the News reports.

NAN oberserved that with heavy security presence around Oshodi environs, few commercial activities were ongoing.

While commercial drivers lament low patronage, few people were seen going about their normal businesses peacefully.

Security operatives were seen patrolling the environment while a Police Armoured Personnel Carrier remained stationed close to the bridge monitoring activities.

 

Though residents within the environ stayed indoors, minimal trading activities were observed.

 

The situation was, however, different at a number of other markets in the Lagos metropolis.

 

The usually busy and populated areas like Mushin/Idi-Oro, Ojuwoye, and Lawanson remained quiet as the areas were deserted, while some traders opened shops for sales of food and essential goods.

 

Also, shops at the popular Tejuosho Market remained closed, while young people turned the roads to football pitches

 

Major areas like Western Avenue, National Stadium, Akerele Road, and Ogunlana Drive were devoid of traffic.

 

Mr Chibuzor Odinaka, a resident of the area, explained the urgency of repairing his phone amidst the unrest that he could not.

 

“These are uncertain times. We need to stay informed about what’s happening and avoid dangerous areas,” he said.

 

Some of the traders who spoke under anonymity said that they were awaiting developments in the ongoing protests.

 

It was also observed that none of the banks nor filling stations in all the areas visited were opened.
