…..berates populace for embracing Chop -I- Chop, money politics
Former Secretary of Transparency International,TI, Major General Isola Williams retd,,has laid the blame for Nigerias woes at the doorstep of the ruling elite and middle class.
According to him, every reasonable programme enunciated by succesive governments has been frustrated because the elite and the middle Class are well entrenched and embeded in Corrupt practises that has led to Failure of government policies and programmes.
Speaking in am exclusive Interview with Newdawnngr.com, in the twenty five Years of Democracy,General Williams said that contrary to general belief, it is the elite and middle Class who knew what to do but suppress it for monetary gains that has scuttled any genuine efforts to build Nigeria and rid it of poverty.
According to him,
the last twenty five Years of democracy has benefited only the elite and the middle Class who took advantage of the people at the grassroots to derail any genuine programmes that could give democracy dividend to the people.
“The so called grassroots are just trying to survive and i declare that it is the elite and middle Class that bear the responsibility of the failure of good governance that the country has experienced in the last 25 Years of civil rule.

He declared further that the Chop I Chop politics that the country is practising has been the bane of the society adding that the moment the poor can organise to free themselves from the oppression of the elite and middle Class the country would be better.
Speaking on the one year of President Bola Tinubu-,he said state Governors have refused to allow grassroots to develop by sitting in local government Funds”As for me,the Governors are the real problems of development at the grassroots level
General Williams who is the Coordinator of Panaftstrag International said the only programme that could liberate the poor is free Education and Free health services at all levels.
He said that since the government of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo who introduced Free Education and health services, no enduring programme has been executed by succesive government bin the country adding that,”this two programmes remains the only enduring legacy that could pull the country out of the woods”.
“After Awolowo,no government in Nigeria has provided Education and health services adding that the neglect of free and quality Education has been the source of Our problems as a country.
He criticised the present level of Education at the primary and secondary school level such that,”when this two key levels are devoid of quality, then tertiary Education cannot be meaningful .
He contended that the poor salary earned by teachers and the lack of proper supervision and control of schools in terms of inspectorate and monitoring has greatly contributed to the declining standard of Education which must be arreated if the country is to make a head way in fighting poverty and low level of development in the country.
As for him,the state Governors are the enemies of democracy and Development by standibg against local government autonomy.
