A major accident involving a luxury bus, a truck, and a small car caused significant disruption on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Berger and Kara on Thursday morning.

The incident, which occurred along the Berger-Kara axis in the early hours, resulted in a lengthy gridlock for commuters traveling from Berger towards Mowe-Ibafo, according to Channels Televion report.

 

While initial reports did not confirm any fatalities, some injuries were reported. The exact number of those injured remains unclear.

Ayo Makinde, a presenter for Channels Television who was caught in the traffic jam, described the situation.

“I was in traffic for about two hours before getting into the office this morning,” he said. “A trip that normally takes 15 minutes took me more than an hour.”

A post by TRACE, Ogun State traffic management agency stated that “multiple accidents around Kara bridge which involved a loaded containerized truck, a luxurious bus and two other vehicles.

“As a result of this, traffic backlog has gotten to New garage and spreading beyond.”

Social media posts and videos depicted the scene of the accident, showcasing the damaged vehicles blocking the roadway.

Emergency responders, including officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigerian Police Force, were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and clear the wreckage.

The extent of the damage and the cause of the accident are still under investigation. However, this incident highlights the ongoing challenges of road safety in Nigeria.

Traffic congestion and multiple-vehicle accidents remain a persistent concern for commuters across the country.
