The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied the news circulating on social media that Abia State has been rated as the best-performing State in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2023, in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by Moyosola Adesina, the acting head of the Public Affairs Department, WAEC clarified that it does not rank the performance of states in its examinations.
The council strongly disassociated itself from the publication and warned media outlets spreading false information to stop doing so.
It referred to these platforms as mischievous and driven by political motivations.
The intention behind spreading such misinformation is to create controversy and disharmony among the states competing for superiority.
WAEC reiterated that it has not yet determined the best candidate(s) for the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2023. Any reports suggesting otherwise should be disregarded. The council called on the general public to take note of this clarification.
