Apparently in response to outcry over the condition of roads in the state especially the border areas, Ogun State government has expressed it’s readiness to embark on palliative measures to make some roads, damaged by the ongoing rainy season motorable.

In a statement, the Special Adviser on Works to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Engineer Akinsanya was quoted as saying that the state Ministry of Works will soon carry out comprehensive road repairs across the state.

Engineer Akinsanya spoke while inspecting the level of damage caused by erosion on some roads across the state.

Akinsanya said the government was aware of the challenges confronting the people, particularly road users.

“The rainy season is here and we are aware of the attendant challenges it has on our roads. However the government is monitoring the situation and is already putting adequate palliative measures in place to arrest the menace,” he said.

Some of the roads identified include; Mowe – Ofada in Obafemi Local Government, the second lane of Adatan – More junction in Abeokuta South Local Government and Akute – Alagbole in Ifo Local Government Area, among others.

He said the identified roads, along with others will receive adequate attention immediately after the rain subsides.

Akinsanya said that the reconstruction of sections of Ijoko-Akute road is ongoing and this is being done in phases.

He reassured residents of the state that their well-being and welfare remain the utmost priority of the state government, adding that Governor Abiodun is resolute and committed to improving not only the economic viability of the state but make life more bearable for the citizenry.

It will be recalled that commuters had been going through difficult times as major roads in the border communities like Agbado, Akute, Oke Aro and Alagbole have practically broken down making it difficult for millions of residents to commute to and from work while several business concerns in the area have been grounded.

Reports by Newdawnngr.com in the past one week have highlighted various difficulty being experienced as work has stopped on the reconstruction works started few months to election.

The contractors assigned the project, Craneburg has withdrawn its men and equipment immediately after the election.

Though the government pledge to ensure completion of the five phases to which the 32 kilometre road was divided little has been done on the road especially after the election.

Today, the Hercules area which is the border between Ogun and Lagos state have almost been cut off due to the deep gully which connected area.

Efforts made to draw the attention of the government has proved abortive thereby causing traffic gridlock in the area connecting Ogun with Lagos.
