“This Inner Wheel year which is tagged ‘Shine a Light’, I want to empower women and youths with vocational skills, Start-Up Equipments, cash gift as well as renovate Schools and health Centres”
These were the words of the newly decorated National Representative/ President National Governing Body of all Inner Wheel Clubs in Nigeria 2023/2024, Inner Wheel Member Zainab Ikheloa.
Ikheloa who spoke during her Installation and Handover which was held at Rotary Centre GRA, Ikeja, Lagos while highlighting some of the projects to execute in the next one year stated that her focus will be on youths because they are tomorrow’s leaders and women because “when you empower women, you empower the whole nation” she said.
According to Ikheloa, the three Objectives of Inner Wheel include : to promote friendship; encourage the ideals of personal service and to foster international understanding.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Father of the Day and Past District Governor, Rotary Club, Prince Julius Adeluyi while commending women for their efforts so far, urges women to focus more re-strategizing and networking. “If women focus more on these, the result will come better and faster than they expected” said Adeluyi.
Inner Wheel service according to the Immediate Past National President, IWM Ezimma Nnabuife is a serious service. “Our major focus last year was to empower young girls with skills and indigent widows with cash gift” said Nnabuife.
Nnabuife however tasks government to get more involved in humanitarian service, it is true that Inner Wheel tries to cover the loopholes where govt have neglected but it will be good if we work in conjunction with govt.
“Inner Wheel want to collaborate more with government”, said Nnabuife.
In her message to women, the International Inner Wheel Past President and Special Guest of Honour, Mrs Yemisi Alatise, charges women to be economically independent. “If you give up your financial independence, you’ll be forced to live a lifestyle that you’ll not enjoy. However small it may be, a woman must find a niche” she concluded.
*Meet IWM Zainab Ikheloa*
Mrs. Zainab Ikheloa is a graduate of Catering/ Hotel Management from Yaba College of Technology, Lagos and Guidance and Counseling from University of Lagos (Unilag). She is also a Fellow of the American Hotel and Motel Association.
She is the CEO Zilly Enterprises, Pretzel Nigeria Ltd. and Co-director, Ikheloa International Nigerian Ltd.
She joined Inner Wheel in 1995 and has been a pillar of support to the Club till date. Ikheloa served in various capacities at the Club level including: Charter President, Club Treasurer, Club Secretary, Club Correspondence, and more.
At the District level, Ikheloa served as Chairman Rep. District Editor, District Treasurer, District Vice Chairman, District Chairman, District Training and Empowerment Chairman, among others.
She is also a Paul Harris Fellow.
