He is not just the best “selecta,” (that is what DJs are called in patoi) on Roots 97.1 FM radio station; his Consicious Tunes’ programme is making waves beyond expectations.
Insider at the station who has the facts says so. A roots reggae programme, Don.G. Nwaokocha has been on it since the inception of the station 96+ months ago and still going very earth strong.
Before now, Nwaokocha had plied his reggae ‘selecta’ job on the airwaves of a Lagos based radio station, Star FM, before migrating to Roots FM his most natural habitat where reggae music of all genre is first and second nature.

His love for reggae music started in the 1980s at a place called Floating Bukka where most Nigeria reggae acts like the late Ras Kimono, Chucks Moses of Ultimum then Idumagbo Niteclub, now in one of the European countries, started off.

On getting to Roots FM, Don G discovered to his chargin that reggae music still has huge followership in Nigeria; that a whole lot of people still listens to it.
“The first thing I noticed on getting to Roots FM 97.1 is that a whole lot of people still listen to reggae; that they still love the music. I get calls from as far as Australia of people thanking me for what I do with Conscious Tunes.,” he began.. “They call to say ‘thank you’ for bringing back reggae. Another thing I discovered is that people are looking for platform to hear reggae music. A platform that will give them reggae vibes and that is what we have done with Roots FM 97.1.”
According to him one thing about reggae unlike other geners is that it promotes love (agape love), peace and unity.
“Reggae is spiritual. Reggae is healing,” he said.
