Vital lessons for young people or even older who are being enticed to the glitters of politics.
If nothing else, a cursory review of the life of the now deceased legislator should tell you that; not all that glitters is gold and that politics, as corrupt as it is in this part of the world, isn’t always a highway to quick wealth. Many times, it has liquidated those who came with their hard-earned wealth and left them frustrated and poor. But, the unfortunate thing is that politics is like gambling, it is addictive. You would always want to quit, but never really get to quit.

Egwim
Arthur Egwim was a very wealthy man before he ventured into politics. He made money early in life and was the cynosure of all eyes in his native Isiokpo and Ideato North generally. In Lagos, he was a big boy by all standards, and he loved life, and lived the good life to the fullest.
Uzodimma: Imo loses two leading lights in Anumudu, Egwim
Arthur Egwim’s finances took a drastic hit when he joined politics. I know that beyond wanting to serve his people, he also believed that politics could give him more money or at least, ease the pressure of using his personal money to take care of some community interventions he had some passion for. He was wrong.
Akuabata as he was fondly called lost his personal fortunes to politics, that even as a sitting House of Assembly member who did everything to avoid the ire of the executive, he was still so broke that he couldn’t easily take care of his debilitating health. He died a sad man, and people who die sad die with many regrets.
I will personally miss Akuabata, because he was a senior friend and brother and I have fond memories of our interactions, agreements and disagreements and I believe he has played his part in the politics of Ideato, Orlu zone and imo State, and I am prayerful that God will forgive his shortcomings and grant him a peaceful rest.
Goodnight, Akuabata.
