India says the development outcomes emerging from its 2026 BRICS Chairship align with the priorities of countries across Africa, Asia and the wider Global South.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that BRICS is a group of major emerging economies that cooperate on economic, political, and development issues.
The name originally stood for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
It has since expanded. As of 2026, BRICS includes 11 full members:
Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and Iran.
Others are, Egypt, Ethiopia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and
Indonesia.
Shri Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary of Economic Relations at India’s Ministry of External Affairs, stated this at a special press briefing on the outcomes of the 18th BRICS Summit on Saturday in New Delhi
Dalela said the more than 50 practical outcomes developed under the pillars of resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability were aimed at strengthening collaboration on development.
“If you look at the New Delhi Declaration, you will find that the attempt is to really frame collaboration on the development agenda,” he said.

He said the development agenda was resonating particularly with India’s partners in Africa, Asia and other countries of the Global South.
According to him, India had continued to share its development experience and expertise with countries of the Global South while also learning from their experiences across different sectors.
Dalela described the diversity of BRICS members as a strength, saying it enabled countries with different development experiences to exchange knowledge and develop common approaches.
He said the grouping had been able to forge consensus across its three major areas of cooperation: political and security; economic and financial; and people-to-people collaboration.
The official said the approach reflected the spirit of BRICS, which encouraged members to learn from one another while drawing on their diverse development experiences.
Dalela said the outcomes of India’s Chairship would provide a basis for continued cooperation among BRICS members and their partners across the Global South.(NAN)
