…Says Lagos still remitting tax of workers resident in Lagos to Ogun

The Ogun state government have entered into discussions with Lagos state government to extend the completed Blue line rail project into Agbara in Ogun state and the Red line to Kajola in the Ifo local government area of the state.

Speaking on Monday while giving details of the states 2023 budget of N472bn, the state,Finance commissioner,Dapo Okubadejo said the extension is with a view to complement the transport infrastructural development of the state in view of it’s closeness to Lagos and the fact that most of it’s residents work in Lagos.

In answer to a question, he disclosed that the completion of the on going construction of Atan Agbara road and rehabilitation of portions of Lagos Abeokuta expressway by the state government is part of measures to boost infrastructure in the state.
He explained that though the federal government may not refund it for the money spent ,since according to Works minister the road is under contract,”we cannot continue to allow the commuters to suffer,nobody understand that it is a federal road.”

According to Okubadejo,many industries in the Agbara axis have started relocating to Lekki corridor in Lagos because of the state of the roads in the industrial hubs of the state before the present government came into office and embark on the reconstruction.

On the payment of taxes by residents of the state who work in Lagos,he said that the remittance of taxes is a continuos exercise adding,”Lagos is not doing us a favour by remitting it’s tax, it is a residency rule.

He also called for the restructuring of the Corporate income tax paid by companies in the country to states where they are domiciled to enable the states develop.
