This is the birthplace of legendary Fela Anikulapo – Kuti and his siblings; the place where Afrobeat creator was waned to adulthood.
Ransome-Kuti house, NEPA Road, Abeokuta. Also home of Funmilayo and I.O. Ransome-Kuti with their children Dolu, Koye, Fela and Beko. It also housed a boarding house for FRK’s students from her school down the road. I.O. was principal of the Abeokuta Boy’s Grammar School almost across the road. After the death of I.O. in 1955 and FRK’s in 1978, upkeep of the house was left to Dolu as her brothers had all relocated to Lagos. The whole house was abandoned and went into disrepair after her death. Over a period of nine years and two governors we finally got the Kuti’s and Lawson’s proposal for the Kuti Home Museum approved and part funded by the Amosun government. #kutiheritagemuseum #funmilayoransomekuti #oludotunransomekuti
