Interesting times are here indeed.

For the people of Kogi state battling flood and closure of biggest industrial complex, Dangotte Cement, a strange fire has rocked the state house of assembly. Obajana: Kogi moves to cancel existing C of O

The Monday morning inferno, which consumed parts of the state House of Assembly complex, occured few days after the massive flood that submerged parts of Lokoja, the state capital.

Nobody seems to have any clue as to the cause of the fire, but it is reported that it consumed the main chamber where legislators sit and gallery meant for the visiting public to observe proceedings, though Salau Ozigi, Director of the Kogi Fire Service (KSFS), said the fire did not extend beyond the area.

TheCable, which indicated that the fire, which is coming five days after the assembly ordered the shutdown of Dangote Cement factory located in Obajana, was still raging as at the time of reporting, quoted a security guard at the complex as saying that the fire started around 7am.

While Jerry Omodara, the special adviser on security to the Kogi state governor, who sighted at the scene, was said to have refused to speak with reporters on the possible cause of the fire, Mathew Kolawole, speaker of the Kogi assembly, was quoted in the same report, as saying that incident would not affect the sitting of the assembly, noting that the mace was not destroyed.

“We got a call this morning from our people here. We are leaving the security people here to do their job. This does not affect the sitting. The mace is not affected and we can actually sit anywhere and conduct our legislative activities,” he was quoted as saying, adding that security operatives will investigate the incident to unravel the cause.
