Fire guts popular market in Ibadan

Traders at the popular Alesinloye market in Ibadan Southwest local government area lost goods worth millions to an early inferno.

Eyewitnesses said the incident left the traders and other people in the neighborhood devastated.

It was gathered the swift response of men of the State Fire Services supported by the teams from nearby SUMAL and Sweetco companies curtailed the spread of the inferno.

As of the time of this report, the extent of the damages could not be ascertained.

A source said the situation would have been minimal if the popular market had a fire station located within it.

General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka confirmed the incident.

Akinyemi in a statement on Wednesday said that men of the agency were still working at the market.

According to him: “Men are currently working at Aleshinloye market. We thank the management of SWEETCO for releasing their truck and men. Very massive.
