The Nigerian politician is mightily unoriginal when seeking votes, especially from people he/she has neglected for long.
During the week, news reports had it that the Governor, who has the eminently dismissive tag of “Eleyi”, has been roused from his protracted sleep and has ordered that palliative work be carried out on horrible road stretching from Alagbole through Akute, Lambe, Giwa, Oke-Aro, Agbado, Ijoko to Ota.
Ijoko,Agbado Akute Road: Eleyi’s compassion simulation
Same tactic. One of his predecessors, Gbenga Daniel, desperate to have members of his political camp in the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) take over the reins of government after him, “empowered” them with the equipment of the state’s road management agency to carry out palliative road repairs in those communities.
These communities never featured in his thoughts in all the years he was governor, but as elections approached and with him frozen out of the PDP, threw those communities a bone that he thought would make them happy and vote for him. He was rejected, along with the special purpose vehicle he manufactured.
It is clear that what happened, a few weeks ago to Governor Oyetola of Osun State, is what is driving his counterpart in Ogun to compassion. At the weekend, a photo of him holding a young woman, who joined the protest carried out by those traumatized by his neglect of her community, in a bid to show empathy. Na disguise he dey disguise. Na cat ablution he dey do. Hope you get am. Na second term he dey find.
What is required in those communities is the completion of the work Ibikunle Amosun started. The incumbent has shown neither interest nor appetite in that abandoned road until now. Give him another term and he will revert to being indifferent.
Amosun did the same. He started work on the road, demolished homes and everything above ground level, started bridges and as his first term was ending, said he’d complete it in the second. He was believed. We know what happened.
As the 2023 elections beckon, it is time for us in these abandoned communities to do the needful.
We should protest through our PVCs . Let us not use our hands to do ourselves.
