Towulade of Akinale,Oba Olufemi Ogunleye,has spoken of the need for cooperation between traditional rulers and police authorities to curb cultism among youths.
Speaking on Friday when the new Divisional Police officer for Ewekoro,CSP Opebiyi and his men paid him a courtesy call in his palace,he reiterated the need for both institutions to educate the youths on dangers of cultism which he said is not an easy route to get rich by the youths.
He said that while it is true that pervasive poverty in the country is a contributory factor to crimes, “yet cultism now prevalent among youths is not a Panacea to poverty”. “They have to know that the dictum of work and eat is the norm in the society and not engage in cultism in order to cut corners”.
Kabiyesi Ogunleye said that there is need for traditional rulers to revive the “cultural values of the people if an end must be put to increasing wave of cultism among youths in the country”.
Said he,”there must be synergy among the traditional institution and police to educate the youths to change their ways in order to be responsible citizens in the society”.
On land grabbing now prevalent in the state,he called on police to educate the people on the land issue which is purely a traditional issue.
He said the police should not take joy in arresting the people nit involved in criminal matters adding,”we traditional rulers will educate the people that land issue is purely a traditional issue.”
In his response,Opebiyi, thanked the traditional ruler for his efforts to rid the area of criminal activities and bring about peace adding that the Police is appreciative of his efforts to use his offices to ensure peace in the community.
He extends his appreciation to the traditional ruler for using his offices to ensure cooperation between the police and the people in ensuring peace in the community in particular and country in general.
