A faith-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Journalists For Christ (JFC) International Outreach has invited journalists, creative writers, presenters/producers, content creators and allied professionals who are passionate about advancing the living conditions of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria to pitch story ideas or special report to advance the course of the displaced persons.

The call for pitches is towards a project that will interrogate and engage institutional stakeholders towards promoting and advancing the rights and welfare of IDPs in Nigeria.

According to President of JFC Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, “The project titled: ’Advancing the Rights and Welfare of Internally Displaced Persons Through Media Monitoring, Investigative Journalism and Media-driven Advocacy,’ has been running and JFC has been engaging stakeholders on the issues concerning IDPs.”

Otufodunrin added that the organisation now invites writers and content producers to pitch story ideas about IDPs and their challenges which would be published on their media platforms to get the attention of duty bearers.

“We are calling journalists who have story ideas or investigative report that will influence the desired change on and for the benefit of IDPs to apply for this call via https://bit.ly/IDPspecialreport,” he said.

The IDPs reporting project is being implemented by Journalists For Christ (JFC) International Outreach with the support of the World Association for Christian Communications (WACC) and the Bread for the World (German Protestant Agency for Diaconia Development).

Successful entries shall be part of a virtual capacity building virtual workshop from where 20 journalists/development writers who have applied to a call for application shall be supported with a token to undertake a field visit to selected IDP camps/communities and write/publish pitched stories/special reports on a specific ‘solutions-driven’ IDP issue.

Deadline for submission of entries is 20th March, 2022 and preference shall be given to applicants with impressive and realistic quick-win special reports from the existing network of ‘IDP supportive journalists’, while others with impressive pitches, who may not have been a part of the network may be considered.

Meanwhile, a committee of experts by JFC shall be set up to initiate and coordinate the selection of 20 pitched stories from entries to be received. Successful pitches shall be supported with a token to write/produce special/analytical/human angle reports.

It is anticipated that in collaboration with focal IDP persons/representatives, the outcome/impact from the pitched stories will be solutions-driven reports that will produce quick-wins in required policy changes/interventions that advance the rights of IDPs in Nigeria.
