
Dapo Thomas
One of the brightest minds at the department of History and International Studies, Lagos State University, LASU, Dr Dapo Thomas, will take the centre stage as a speaker on the Rotary Club International organised ‘sharing knowledge session’ scheduled for Airport Hotel.
It is titled the ‘political and international relations implications of Russian Invasion of Ukraine for our continent.’
Dapo Thomas, is a 1985 graduate of History from the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. He obtained his Master’s Degree in International Relations from the same University in 1987.
The allure of writing took him to commence a career in journalism. He started out at the now defunct Newbreed Magazine in 1989 and in 1990 he joined the Nigeria HomeNews in London, and same year had a brief stint with the Lagos State Ministry of Information. In 1991, he joined The Daily Times of Nigeria and he eventually took appointment as the Special Assistant to the then Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, a position he held till 1998 when he joined the Lagos State University as a Lecturer in the Department of History and International Studies.
While teaching at LASU, he equally played a dual role of serving the then Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Senior Special Assistant between 1999 and 2007. He, after the appointment, continued his academic pursuit which took him to Nigeria’s Premier University, University of Ibadan where where he bagged a Ph.D in Political Science in 2014.
Dr Dapo Thomas, a Lagosian by birth, whose areas of specialization are, Foreign Policy, Middle East and Theories of IRS is the author of the book; “The Political Economy of Nigeria-United States Relations.” He also has a lot of peer review dissertations, essays, articles and historical expositions to his credit. Amongst them are: “Nigeria’s Foreign Policy: Conceptual Analysis of The Realist and Behavioural Paradigms”,
“US-Israeli Relations since Jimmy Carter!”,
“Corruption War, Trial Carnival and Molebi Theory”,in Sociology and Anthropology”,

A facilitator in many academic and knowledge-driven fora, Dr. Dapo Thomas had written and delivered papers on Nigeria and other globally relevant issues such as:

It must be noted that most of his scholarly works and articles on History are aimed at establishing the relevance and significance of History in the life of a society. Hence, the need to address some of the historiographical issues in order to provide the depth for the various interrogations and investigations that have been undertaken. His other research works on international relations-related issues are stimulated by the need to understand the dynamics of the international system with a view to appreciating its volatility and
the obvious asymmetric relations among the states in the system.
Dr. Thomas is a Member, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, (NILA), Member, Nigerian Society for International Affairs (NSIA). He was equally a one time Chairman of a Panel on Globalisation Conference, Unibadan, Member, Lagos State Committee on the Relocation of NYSC Camp from Ipaja to Igando and played active role in the relocation of Part-Time Programmes (LASU)

Currently a Senior Lecturer in the department of History and International Studies, Lagos State University.
