A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Alh. Saleh Mandung Zazzaga has admonished Governor Simon Bako Lalong and indeed, all the 17 Local Government Council Chairmen in Plateau State to always consider merit, popularity and capacity to contribute positively to governance when appointing people into public offices.

Speaking to newsmen in Jos, Zazzaga who is a strong supporter of the APC led administration in Plateau State decried the situation whereby some persons were appointed as advisers to the Governor based on the recommendations of some political godfathers rather than merit and loyalty to the party.

According to the APC Bigwigs Leader, the newly elected and sworn in Local Government Council Chairmen are also making the mistake of appointing people who have no electoral value and in some cases, have performed poorly in previous assignments given to them.

In his words, “when you keep appointing people who are only after their stomachs rather than the interest and progress of the APC as a party, we will have problems come 2023. Political appointees ought to be persons who are grassroots politicians that know the plight of the masses”.

“It’s high time the governor and LG Chairmen take the issue of appointments into public offices seriously so that we do not end up with snakes and gorillas that will bite and cause havoc to the party in 2023” he added.

He went further to explain that “some appointees and Local Government Chairmen are capable of wreaking havoc on the fragile peace we’re currently enjoying in the state by their anti-people activities. This is why the Governor must be more proactive and thorough in his appointments”.

He reiterated that Governor Lalong is a man with people’s interest and concern at heart, and that is why despite the harsh economic reality in the country and the dwindling revenue to the state, the governor has continued payment of salaries, while other state governors could not meet up.
