2027AFCONQ: Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau Thrash Super Eagles 3-0.
Three times former AFCON champions, The Super Eagles of Nigeria was on Tuesday evening dressed down by the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau at the 24th September Stadium. Setembro in a disappointing 3-0 lock down in a group L AFCON qualifier game.
The bench of the Wild Dog team displaced flat footed Super Eagles defence thrice making Nigeria rated 4th by FIFA look like Minnows or learners who just took a heavy meal before FIFA ranked 132nd team.
Team mate of Victor Osimhen at Galatasary, Renato Nhaga gave a long pass to Fraculino who beat Bruno and Goalkeeper Nwabali just stood watching the ball go into the right corner of his post in the 15th minute for the opener. Renato was pulled out in the 61st minute for Mamadi Camara who floated a pass to Mama Balde who beat defender Bright Osayi to score the 2nd goal in the 66th minute.
Nigeria had noted that the turf at the 24th September Stadium was not good not even up to the standard of Lekan Salami Stadium or MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta that CAF complained about but the Eagles who trained there Monday should have adjusted but team selection was not particularly good.
Guinea Bissau who had beaten Tanzania before their fans at home 2-0 searched for a 3rd goal against Nigera that managed a 2-1 win against Madagascar in Uyo and the Wild Dogs got their 3rd goal another substitute, Alvaro Djalo who was brought into the match in the 79th minute and found Tamble that scored in the 90+5 minute when the Nigerian Defence was off guard.
It was obviously not a good day for the Super Eagles who had 56-44% ball possession stringing 370-303 passes with 22-13 touches in the opponent’s box coupled with 5-4 corner kick advantage but the truth was that the Nigerian attackers went to sleep no treat to the Guinea Bissau Goalkeeper. Nigerian Coach Echelle had said he is after the three maximum points but he led Nigeria to her 2nd ever defeat from the Wild Dogs.
Incidentally Guinea Bissau had beaten Nigeria 1-0 in Uyo on 24th March 2023 after they lost by same margin on the 22nd of same March that year in the 1st leg in Guinea Bissau; the 1st time both sides met on 19th January 2019 Nigeria won 2-0 and the last time they met on 22nd July 2024 Nigeria won by a lone goal.

Guinea Bissau had beaten Taifa Stars of Tanzania 2-0 away when Nigeria came from behind to defeat Madagascar in Uyo 2-1 in this group L.
Earlier today Tanzania and Madagascar played 1-1 when Salum Feisal scored the first goal for Tanzania and Nicolas Fontaine equalized.
That leaves group L table for Guinea Bissau to maintain lead with 6 points scoring 5 goals and conceding no goal, Nigeria is still 2nd with 3 points scoring 2 goals and conceding 4; Tanzania which will play in the AFCON 27 finals as Co hosts is 3rd with 1 point scoring a goal and conceding 3 while Madagascar is 4th also with 1 point scoring 2 goals but conceding 3 goals. Only one team will qualify from this group.
On 11th November Madagascar will host Guinea Bissau when Nigeria will host Tanzania in Uyo. On 15th November Nigeria will be away to Tanzania while Madagascar will be away to Guinea Bissau.
