Stop reprisal attacks – CDS urges Plateau, Fulani leaders

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor, has charged all stakeholders in Plateau State to warn their youths from carrying out reprisal attacks.

Irabor spoke on Wednesday in Jos when he met Governor Simon Lalong and all Plateau community heads including Funali and Irigwe Chiefs.

He noted that the circle of violence cannot be contained if reprisals hold sway.

According to him: “I urge you to beacon on your people to embrace peace, reprisal is not the best way to go. One thing I have found out is that there is a circle of killings and reprisal killings and this has to stop.

“During the stakeholders meeting we all came out resolved that today we are going to draw a line going forward that peace will continue to return to our communities and your efforts in this regard speaking to your subjects is very critical.

“I have also come to commensurate with you and to reassure you that my officers and soldiers will continue to play their part as it should be”, the CDS told the Paramount rulers of the Irigwe Chiefdom and that of the Uja of Anaguta of Jos, Pozo Magaji.

Responding, the Irigwe Community Leader HRH Rev. Ronku Aka, the Brra Ngwe to the CDS that his people are peace-loving and accommodating and ready to live in peace with other people including the Fulani.

Aka told Gen. Irabor that as at now he should stop the Fulani from grazing in their farm land until all issues are settled.
