Lagos State government has enjoined women and youths to leverage on digital marketing amidst the pandemic as digital entrepreneurship can lead to a new methodology that offer values for business at a reduced cost.
Speaking at a One-Day Seminar organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) through the Women Development Centre, held at Agege, Lagos, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Cecilia Balaji-Dada pointed out that this is necessary because COVID-19 era has enabled us evolve and adapt to the new norms.
At the event which was titled ‘ Feminisation of Skill Acquisition & Human Capacity Devt. among Unemployed Wome and Youth in Lagos in COVID-19 era”, Hon. Bolaji-Dada said unlike in the past when men are taking the centre stage, there is now a paradigm shift as more women are now gaining the rightful place and attention by being distinctive and proficient in both the formal and the informal sector ranging from financial, telecommunication, health, education, among others.
Speaking further, “The SanwoOlu led administration has demonstrated a strong resolve to harness the potentials of women and youth across all sectors of the state. The state in the last 2 years has graduated over 10,000 trainees from govt. owned skill acquisition centres, this providing empowerment for many women and youth” said Hon. Dada who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, WAPA, Mrs. Oluyemi Kalesanwo.
The seminar according to the Director, Women Development Centre (WDC) Mrs. Deola Adepoju is needful because to effectively attain the 17 Goals, it is important that women contribute especially to their immediate family, by providing essential needs of feeding, clothing and many more. “No doubt sustaining empowerment begins with adequate enlightenment and campaigns on the benefits and importance of upskilling women and youth in the society, hence the reason for the seminar’ said Adepoju.
Speaking on the importance of branding, the CEO/LC, KGL Prime Consult, Kunle Adefila urged partipants to make conscious efforts to position themselves as an authority in their fields, thereby elevating their credibility and differentiating themselves from their competitors.
On his part another speaker, a Fashion Business Coach, Laoye Curtis who spoke on ‘Challenges of Modern Small Scale Business: Way Forward and New Trends particularly in COVID-19 era” charged participants to be specific, deliberate and have sellable skills which will give them and edge in digital business.
